MGB Roadster 1971 CCG 518 K

Hi all

I used to own the above MBG Roadster (as I recall I bought it around 1983)

This was my first car and holds lots of happy memories for me. I restored it as best I could at that time with many parts from the local BL dealer. (No new shells at that time !!)

I would love to know if this is still a "known car" to the register and that the current owner is having as much fun with it as I did.

I still have numerous photos of the car and its restoration which I am more than happy to provide copies of if of interest to the new owner

The car was blaze orange when purchased which may have been the original colour, I still have a picture somewhere of it before any work was done, by the time I bought it, it had been badly resprayed/repaired so it was stripped to a bare shell, rebuilt and resprayed guards red by Abingdon Classic Cars.

I knew it was still on road as like you I checked MOT register but I have never seen it at car shows etc which surprised me as it was in pretty good condition when I sold it.

For interest attached is a picture of it back up together although not finished. It ended up with chrome wire wheels and a few other extra bit (well it was the 1980s!!!)

It's nice to see you kept the recessed grille. Many people have replaced them with the earlier chrome grille, making cars with the recessed grille something of a rarity now. I wonder if the owners between when you sold the car and now still kept it.

I was only 18 when I bought this car but still had the sense to try to keep it pretty much as original (aside from a colour change and chrome wires)

It retained all of its original running gear, seats, radio and such like, where possible most of trim, chrome work etc was replaced with new ex stock Leyland parts from a main dealer, I had hours of fun in the Hartwell parts department looking a MGB microfilm diagrams. I was there so often they ended up knowing my name.

Unlike today it was pretty rare to see a 1970s MGB in tip top condition, to the point I was chased by a French motorist whilst on holiday in Brittany who tried very hard to get me to sell the car to him.

I have moved to the dark side and now have German Sports cars, but miss the days of stopping at traffic lights and getting smiles and a thumbs up for the car. Even in a classic Porsche you just get a dirty look!!!

As I am sure everybody on this forum agrees, MGBs get under your skin and become part of the family, I have more photos of this car and good memories than any other car I have ever owned.

I am very happy, I have found a picture of my old car taken in 2010 and it appears to still have the same recessed grille I put on and is being looked after which is pleasing.
