hard top

Post by Philip Tibbitts »

A question regarding suitability of hard tops....

Q: Will hard tops fit the full range of years of manufacture, or are they made specifically for a certain Series?

For instance, will one made for a 1971 chrome bumper model, still be suitable to fit a later, 1976 year rubber bumper'ed car ?

Replies greatfully accepted.

Regards,

Phil.

A proper works hard top will fit any year of roadster without modification. I own a works hard top which is currently on my 65 MGB.

A hard top was recently donated for the Marathon MGB from an unknown year of manufacture currently resting on John Watson's 64 B.

There are a reasonable range of adjustments that can be made with the fixings to accommodate the various variances of production.

I guess that is the same story for after market hardtops too.

Take a look at this thread as well:

In this thread note the difficulties fitting the Clubmans hardtop. You can buy the fitting kit for the Works Hardtop if you find a secondhand one that has not got the fittings included.

You can't buy a new Works Hardtop any more but the Clubmans (also often called 'Works Style') version is available either from many of the main suppliers or from:
http://honeybournemouldings.co.uk/
Who I suspect make them for many of the suppliers!

The Works hardtop is double skinned and features glass windows (or at least a glass rear window), and when fitted it is much more rigid than the Clubmans version.
