Pride of Longbridge
Spent a lovely few hours yesterday in Cofton Park Longbridge at the Pride of Longbridge event. Having worked there for 27years and owning an MGB GT with a Longbridge produced engine I thought that it would be a nice day out. So I took my 1973 B along and parked it amongst a row of other MGs. There w...

Re: Insurance
How does £65 per annum fully comprehensive for a 1973 GT with 3 named drivers and 3000 miles limit sound? RAC breakdown coverage for £28 makes a grand total of £93 per annum which is £7 less than I paid last year with only 2 named drivers. When I tried to add an extra driver mid year they wanted £42...

Re: Alternator not charging/ignition light not on
My last post on this thread.
New alternator fitted
Ignition light going on and off as it should
14.3 volts at battery terminals at 2000 rpm
Such a relief that everything is working properly
Again, thanks for your help
Cheers

Re: Alternator not charging/ignition light not on
I’ve got it!! I have seen the light- literally!! There is no earth for the ignition light as the route to earth within the alternator has been broken, therefore it will never light up. Never thought of that! Also as the alternator is faulty and not producing either charge for the battery nor the 12v...

Re: Alternator not charging/ignition light not on

Also bought my own multimeter. ‘Static’ battery voltage with battery fully charged 12.67 volts ‘Dynamic battery voltage engine running at 2000 rpm 12.43 volts This seems to confirm that the alternator is not cha...

Re: 16ACR versus 18ACR
Managed to get a Lucas 45amp output alternator from Halfords for just over £39 which is far cheaper than other online suppliers.

Re: Alternator not charging/ignition light not on
Charles. Does this test confirm the integrity of the alternator to warning light connection and the warning light to ignition switch or just alternator to light.

16ACR versus 18ACR
Hi
About to buy a new alternator. Workshop Manual says 16acr is the right one. Various suppliers say 18ACR.
Other than the obvious increase in output are there any advantages or disadvantages in switching to 18ACR assuming that they are physically interchangeable .
Cheers Geoff
