Diff Talk

Earlier, while working on the SU pump I had noticed that there was oil from the diff thrown up around the battery box, so I knew that I would have to face replacing the diff pinion oil seal. Today, while I'm waiting on the oil seal to arrive, i decided to have a proper look under there, and check th...

Re: Leak at thermostat studs

Hello Mike, On mine, which has the filler on the top of the housing, and the bracket sticking out over the alternator, there is much more thread showing on all three studs when tightened up. Probably more than 1/4". I had it off recently, and since replacing it there's no leak from the struds, ...

Re: Cylinders 3 & 4 Not Adding Much

Chris With just a turn of the enricher screw, (just under the dashpot right side), which in turn raises the piston a fraction, to allow a little more fuel to get sucked in. I only did a rough balancing of the air volume with a short length of hose pipe to my ear, and other end stuck in the carb, and...

Re: Cylinders 3 & 4 Not Adding Much

Yes, or maybe even wear in the rocker shaft itself.

I''ll try and run it on a very slow idle, with the rocker cover off, and hold each follower in turn, to see if I can locate the culprit.

Re: Cylinders 3 & 4 Not Adding Much

As expected the rear SU was obviously over lean, so now I have it running reasonably well. There was noise from one tappet so I ran through all tappets (or at least I thought I had), but with the rocker cover back on, the loud tapping is still there. Did I just miss one ( I don't think so) or is the...

Re: Cylinders 3 & 4 Not Adding Much

Hello Vic,

Thanks for that helpful information.

I better start studying the workshop manual, to get familiar with HIF''s, or start hunting for HS6's.

Re: Cylinders 3 & 4 Not Adding Much

Hello Guys and Gals, Thanks for your input Ian, and Vic. I did a compression test, and only no 4 was a little below the other three. Still suspecting the rear SU, I slackened the coupling nut on the accelerator linkages, in an a effort to try and balance them, although I don't have an ST balancer. H...
