Re: New clutch master cylinder leaking from cap - does it need rubber seal?
Ian, there is an air passage, but I don't know how it works. I think the cap is made in two parts and the air escapes laterally between the parts. I held a rubber tube firmly against the internal central hole and blew and the air definitely escaped from the cap.

Re: New clutch master cylinder leaking from cap - does it need rubber seal?
Well I have the second new master cylinder fitted and all is well. Even bleeding the system didn't take long. A half dozen pumps from my wife's danty foot and it worked fine. I had to keep jumping up from underneath of course as two pumps nearly emptied the reservoir - why are they so small? Vic tho...

Re: New clutch master cylinder leaking from cap - does it need rubber seal?
Thanks for the thought Vic, but all the components are brand new following the rebuild just finished. What I've never seen before is the fluid being ejected upwards from the reservoir. With the cap off it gets to a height of about 6 inches before splashing down and ruining my nice new paint. Just to...

New clutch master cylinder leaking from cap - does it need rubber seal?
I fitted a new plastic reservoir clutch master cylinder to my '71 B. After a couple of journeys I found fluid on the heel mat and the cylinder was half empty. I have taken the pedal box cover off and it is NOT leaking from the push rod end of the cylinder, which is what I expected. The fluid has bee...

Re: Fuel issue
I agree Ian, and it puzzled me too as I sat on the edge of the dual carriageway listening to it. I can only assume that the small amount of flow that did get through was enough to prevent the pump from stalling. I reckon that filling the car with E5 fuel, when it had never had ethanol containing fue...

Re: Fuel issue
On my recently finished rebuild I experienced the exact same thing. The first time I took the car out, with newly refurbished carbs and a new fuel pump, it ran fine at town speed, but when I got onto the by-pass and got it up to 60 mph fuel starvation kicked in and we slowly ground to a halt. While ...

Re: Coolant leak
The Weber carb may not have a vacuum take-off port which might be why there's no vacuum unit on the dissy. Moisture in the cap will be what caused your trouble - I'd lay money on it. It must be dry inside. There's over 10,000 volts pulsing in there and any route to earth will be taken. I'm in Scotla...

Re: Coolant leak
If you take the distributor out and replace it you are into the business of re-timing the ignition, which is easy to get wrong if you aren't careful. How experienced are you in old car mechanics? Looking at your photo I can't see any sign of the vacuum chamber or the tube that connects it to the car...

Re: GT V8 original tyre size
That's good that those tyres are still available. I said I didn't know because I don't need that size. My car runs on 195/65 x 15.

Re: Overheating
Well the stock of decent uncracked heads might be diminished by now, but years ago when my head went to Peter and he found it cracked, he supplied a good head modified to "Fast Road" standard and very good it has been.
