Re: Re-shell and DVLA
A friend of mine built a V8 roadster in a new Heritage shell using an old rusted out GT as the donor car. When he came to register it he hit all sorts of snags because (A) the Heritage shell has its own stamped-in VIN number which didn't match the chassis number on the GT's V5c, and (B) because the ...

Re: Exhaust manifold nuts
Thanks David. I'm rebuilding a '71 roadster at the moment (when the weather is not quite so bally cold!). One of those exhausts may go on my shopping list.

Re: Wiper Problems
The "rubber" blades are also of questionable quality on many replacements. I reckon the rubbers on Tex blades is far too hard, don't flip over when they reverse direction, and wipe poorly. I buy replacement rubber refills from Halfords and cut them to size. They seem to be made from a bett...

Re: Exhaust manifold nuts
Slightly off topic David, but is your Tourist Trophy exhaust the one sold by Moss with flanged joints? https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/exhaust-system-tourist-trophy-with-downpipe-stainless-steel-459-075.html If it is, how do you like it? Is it noisy? The flanged joints must be a good idea in preventin...

Re: Fitting inertia real seat belts to a roadster
My roadster is undergoing restoration at the moment so I was able to take this photo of how the Securon belts fit in my car. The hole is shown circled and you can clearly see the bracket that allows the belt reel to sit horizontally. There is a large square steel plate on the other side of the hole ...

Re: V8 Oil Leak
I wonder how old your V8 engine is? Early engines, such as those from Rover P5 and P6 had a rope type seal at the rear of the crankshaft which is a well known leak point. Later engines used a normal sprung seal, but these can fail too. The later seal doesn't fit the early engines.

Re: Draining fuel
To get rid of the old fuel, I would put a half gallon into another car after it has been filled with fresh stuff. It will get used up. I put the old fuel from my project MGB into my daily use Triumph Dolomite with no ill effects - the fuel was about 5 years old. My MGB's tank has a drain plug which ...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA
I think I would transfer the original chassis number plate otherwise the MOT tester will pick up that the car doesn't match the DVLA record on his computer. But George is quite right, it is allowable to use a bodyshell of the same type as the original. That's how Frontline get away with their "...
