Re: Brakes continually need re-bleeding / reservoir needs topping up
Well I would agree about the steering and that's why my V8 has power steering. But my 1971 roadster, which I drove to work every day for 12 years has no servo and the brakes were absolutely fine and not heavy at all. Far better than on my 1977 Dolomite which does have a servo! I'm currently rebuildi...

Re: Spark plug socket
They are standard length 14mm thread spark plugs. The correct specification is Spanner Size: 20,8 mm. Outer thread [mm]: 14,0. Thread Length [mm]: 12,7. Buy a 21mm plug socket and get one with a rubber insert to protect the ceramic insulator. 21mm plugs come in standard reach and long reach, but the...

Re: Brakes continually need re-bleeding / reservoir needs topping up
According to the official parts book and Clausager's "Original MGB", all single circuit brakes on the MGB use the same master cylinder. There was a change to the type of seals used but the bore remained the same. There is a good article on the servo on Paul Hunt's excellent site http://mgb...

Re: Brakes continually need re-bleeding / reservoir needs topping up
Or simply remove the servo and connect up the pipework without one. In my opinion the standard servo makes very little difference to the brakes anyway. Plus you will have a firmer pedal. After all, the first nine years of MGBs had no servo, and the brakes were identical to the ones on the servoed ca...

Re: Brakes continually need re-bleeding / reservoir needs topping up
It's not unheard of for the fluid to be collecting in the brake servo, assuming you have the remote servo mounted on the passenger side of the car. A few owners have suffered sudden alarming loss of brakes while driving when all the brake fluid has gone into the servo. It's what I would check if I w...

Re: What year is My MGB
I've had a look in Clausager's book "Original MGB" and come up with this. Certainly your car appears to be an early one. G means it is an MG H means it has an engine between 1400 and 2000 cc N means it is a two seat tourer 3 means it is a mark 1 model built between 1962 -1967. These are kn...

Re: Bleeding the clutch
A technique I have used on several cars is to bleed it from the bottom up, the way the air naturally wants to go. I start with the system empty and connect my full Eezibleed bottle to the slave bleed nipple. Then by applying a very low pressure from the spare tyre (around 10 psi) you can watch the f...

Re: Moss 3K uprated heater
No I've no experience of that unit, although I have seen it before. It is made by Clayton Classics ( http://claytonclassics.co.uk/parts-upgrades/218-heating-upgraded-heaters-mgb-c-gtv8 ) and is a bit deeper than the standard unit as I understand it. This can lead to clearance issues on the factory V...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA
That makes sense George. As you say, they must have used the body number as a VIN. The car in question was built and finished more than 15 years ago so would have had to have a test before going on the road and I guess the discrepancy was picked up then. When I built my V8 conversion I just rebuilt ...
