Re: Request for information
I assume you mean for an 1800 4-pot, not a V8.

Re: Oil filter change
On the Rover V8 engine as used in the factory MGB GTV8 the oil pump is external right at the front of the engine and already has pipe connections built in. I don't know how you would connect up a remote filter to a BMC B-series engine.

Re: Owners or Car Club?
I'm with Ian 100 percent, having been in both clubs. MGOC was set up by the Bentley brothers at the time of the MGB's run-down and eventual factory closure. It was then and is still, first and foremost a business. I became disillusioned with them many years ago and let my membership lapse, whereas I...

Re: Hello and any advice welcome
Parts suppliers - for the MGB you are spoiled for choice. I have rebuilt two MGBs using almost exclusively MGB Hive parts. They are competitively priced and give very quick delivery. I see Rimmer Bros are now doing MGB parts and I have found them very efficient for my Triumph. Brown and Gammons are ...

Re: agreed value insurance
My Equity Red Star policy through Peter James clearly states "Unlimited Mileage", but commuting to your place of work is excluded as is all competitive use.

Re: agreed value insurance
Thanks for your reminder Ian. My classics have been insured with broker Peter James for a number of years and I have just checked the current paperwork. I definitely have agreed value and fully comprehensive, but no NCD. The insurer is Equity Red Star and the premium is very reasonable. My BGTV8 and...

If you haven't already had a look at Paul Hunt's excellent web site you should read the long section on Fuel Gauges. Find it here

Re: Oil cooler
I have always thought the MGB oil cooler was not essential. The MG RV8, basically an MGB with a 3.9 litre V8, doesn't have one. I have a 3.9 in my BGT and the amount of heat produced by these engines is huge but they seem fine without a cooler. Strangely the Midget never had a cooler but actually ne...

Re: best workshop manual
I have both the official British Leyland workshop manual and the Haynes manual. Neither is perfect. The factory manual assumes you have a garage full of special tools as it is aimed at the dealers of the day. The Haynes manual is a bit skimpy on detail, for example, "Reassembly is the reverse o...

Re: Spark plug socket
Remy, proper spark plug sockets are longer than standard sockets and ideally have the rubber insert so you can't crack the insulator. A 21mm is what you need. I'm fairly sure the door screws will need a number 4 Pozidrive bit. They could be very tight so be careful not to damage them. An impact driv...
