Re: Oil cooler

According to Clausager, the oil cooler became standard in November 1967. I don't know why. In my experience the MGB doesn't need an oil cooler, whereas the Midget does. On my last 4-pot MGB I had a thermostat in the oil cooler feed pipe which only allowed oil to pass to the cooler when the oil temp ...

Re: GT GRP Front wings

I bought a Honeybourne fibreglass front valance and it fitted really well and is well made. I can't comment on their wings.

Re: Old Residue behind Driver Dashboard (renewing car bodywork)

Why would brake fluid be on the inside face of that panel? Master cylinder leaks generally drip down from the aperture through which the pedals hang. It looks like some form of preservative coating to me. From the factory that would simply be painted in body colour. However its worth checking out th...

Re: Supplier for good quality 1/4 light rubbers

Thanks Paul. It's good to hear about Colin Goodey. "He is usually at Stoneleigh MG & Triumph show in February , but I think you are quite a distance from the show." Yes, a mere 350 miles each way. Once upon a time I might have considered coming, but at 75 years old I don't think I'll b...

Re: Supplier for good quality 1/4 light rubbers

I had a look at coh-baines website as I had heard from someone else that their rubber products were superior, but the 1/4 window seals aren't shown and when I contacted them they don't supply those articles. I had never heard of justmgb.com, but looking on his website I find 1/4 light rubbers made i...

Re: Supplier for good quality 1/4 light rubbers

Thanks for replying Michael. I was rather afraid that was probably the answer. I don't know quite what to do as my GT stands out in the rain quite frequently (it rains a lot in Troon). Maybe I'll seal it up with Arbomast black sealer and never open it. I'm fed up with permanently wet carpets and und...

Supplier for good quality 1/4 light rubbers

My 1/4 light windows in the doors let in water. My experience is that most "rubber" seals from the usual suppliers are of poor quality. Can anyone recommend a supplier of decent quality seals, preferably in the UK? I would like some that would last as long as the originals, which were good...

Re: fresh air intake and washer jets

I've never seen that mesh with the larger holes before. I certainly need a mesh as where I live there are a lot of trees and tree debris falls on the car quite often. I have had the fine mesh for years but, as you say, it must restrict the air flow. Is there a website for Ashley Hinton? The only one...

Re: fresh air intake and washer jets

To add to what Charles has said, the complete rear wing assembly goes right up to that welded joint on the C pillar, and right down to the seam on the rear panel inboard of the rear lights. On all chrome bumper cars these seams were hidden by filling them with lead solder (a process called lead load...

Re: fresh air intake and washer jets

Yes, the chrome grille can simply be levered out from above. Take care and do a little bit at each end until it comes free. It is possible to snap off the little legs that hold it so be careful. The washer jets are held from underneath by a tiny nut. you have to get at them from behind the dashboard...
