Re: Front wing difference

I have an unused right hand wing for a roadster HZA3842. It is a pattern part, not a Heritage wing, but it has never been fitted to a car so is rust free. Interested?

Re: Fuel Pump

It will probably be fine - make sure you get the low pressure model. The only slight concern for me would be the plastic body. Screwing fuel lines into plastic can be tricky. Overtighten and you crack it. I went for one the Hardi ones from MGBHive. https://mgbhive.co.uk/product/7a-mgb-pointless-elec...

Re: Clutch pedal

It sounds like a failure in the hydraulic system giving you clutch drag. The clutch is disengaging part of the way, but not completely. You can engage forward gears because the synchromesh cones in the gearbox allow it, but reverse gear has no synchromesh so the straight cut teeth won't mesh if ther...

Re: Engine rebuild options

That's the problem with being the best. I did all the spannering myself so he only needed to supply the head and set aside time on the rolling road.

Re: More newbie questions: Crankcase breather and oil pressure gauge flickering

It's no great hassle to drain the radiator buy pulling off the bottom hose (unless you nhave a rad drain tap), flush with a hose until it runs clear and refill with a fresh mix of glycol antifreeze. Make sure the heater is on HOT so that can be flushed too. Be aware that if you have the radiator wit...

Re: More newbie questions: Crankcase breather and oil pressure gauge flickering

Oh, you can spend many a happy hour researching oils for your MGB. The crucial thing, it seems, is to have some ZDDP (a sort of zinc phosphate) in the oil. The MGB's old fashioned engine has a couple of sliding components, mainly the flat topped tappets and the rocker pads that shove the valves down...

Re: Wheel and tyre size question

On the MGB Hive website they also offer the 15" x 5.5" wheel with tyres fitted and they are using 185/65 x 15. That size should give you the same speedo readings as the standard 165/80 x 14 fitted at the factory. Ian is right about arch clearance being assymetric side to side. Most MGBs I ...

Re: Ignition light comes on when there is no key in the switch

I think your car, being a late model, has an ignition relay. You say there are two relays next to the fuse board. One will be the starter relay and will have brown and white/red wires attached, the other might be the ignition relay in which case it will have one brown, two white and one white/brown ...

Re: Rev drop when clutch engages

The first thing that springs to my mind is the crankshaft thrust washers. If they are worn then putting pressure on the flywheel by operating the clutch can cause the crankshaft to move forward by a couple of thousands of an inch which loads up the crankshaft bearings and con-rods. With the engine o...
