Re: Window Winder Woes
I agree Ian. If I unscrew one of my handles there is a 6 sided flat which the handle fits over. In fact the handles used to be so close to the door trim that they were damaging them, so I printed the spacers you see here to keep them away a little. The mechanism of the winder has a flat hexagon whic...

Re: Ignition Timing
Because fuel is so different now, and most engines have been altered in one way or another, the standard timing settings are probably not the optimum any more. For best results you need an expert to set it up on a dynamometer. Failing that, one thing you can try is to advance it little by little, ta...

Re: Today in the garage
On cars with a dynamo rather than an alternator the ammeter had a use. With the headlights and wipers on, the charging system had a struggle to keep up with demand. The ammeter going into the minus side showed that you were draining the battery, which could happen even with the engine running. I wou...

Re: Repairing (screw) holes on a dashboard
Removing the dashboard needs careful thought and planning. The top of the steering column is supported by the dashboard, so if it is removed there is nothing to support the column. I have made up a simple steel bracket to replace the dashboard support and keep the column where it ought to be (more o...

Re: So what did I actually buy ?
I have a 1971 B roadster chassis no. GHN5 253272. It is, and always has been a UK home market car. It has single circuit brakes, the later more angular rear light lenses, the same steering wheel as in your photo, and the same dashboard but with toggle switches rather than the rocker switches you hav...

Testing overdrive solenoid
While the body is away being painted I am looking at the engine and gearbox from my 1971 B roadster. This afternoon I thought I would check the overdrive (LH type) and applied 12v to the yellow/red wire with the negative from the battery connected to the gearbox case. When I moved the gear lever fro...

Re: Petrol additives
Don't any garages near you stock the super grade? Super unleaded is going to remain at not more than 5% ethanol, and some brands are zero. Round here (Ayrshire) its only Morrisons that don't keep the super grade. All the other supermarkets and small garages have it. OK it costs more but with low mil...

Re: Front wing difference
Ah, therein lies the problem. I am in SW Scotland, not too far from Glasgow. Sending the bumper in a suitable large cardboard box would be quite pricey.

Stu, whereabouts in the UK are you? Transport of wings is tricky!
