Re: Squealing brakes

Very common MGB problem. I had a set of Mintex pads which were terrible. I now have GreenStuff pads and all is quiet. I tried the 3M brake anti-squeal shims - they worked at first but the noise came back after a short while. I'm afraid your drilled and grooved discs won't be helping. They really are...

Re: Additional fuse options

For Ben, I used this relay box but left the lid off as it was a very tight fit and seemed unnecessary. They also sell a 7 relay box should you need it. https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk/c-219-relays-flasher-units/p-652-4-way-relay-box Ian, like you I have no idea why there is a kink in that pi...

Re: Additional fuse options

On the 1971 car I rebuilt and sold I went the way of the modern blade fuse box. It fitted in nicely, although I had to bridge some of the terminals to replicate how the original was set up. I hate glass fuses and the old fuse box which seems to give bother with poor connections as they get older. Yo...

Re: Raising suspension.

Ian is right, not only is the RB crossmember different, but the mountings at the front of the rear springs is altered as well. I'm not sure just fitting RB springs will achieve what you want.

Re: Wheels with standard bodywork

I have 15" wheels, 6" wide with 195 section tyres under standard bodywork. You won't have any trouble with the front, but at the rear you might get some rubbing, especially as the live axle is often offset to one side, and it can move sideways on its leaf springs. I have Hoyle independent ...

Re: Oil cooler

For "stonking red hot" try a V8 in there. Twice the cc, twice the heat.

Re: DIY power steering write up ?

PAS is very nice on the MGB. My GT is running 195 section tyres on 15" wheels and I fitted the expensive EZ kit several years ago. Parking is such a doddle now that I wouldn't want to go back. It's good on the motorway too - I don't notice at all at speed. Mind you it cost a LOT more than £200.

Plastic front wing liner shields

Way back in about 2007 when I was building my V8 GT conversion, I fitted a pair of plastic front wing liners like these https://mgbhive.co.uk/product/gac7038-pair-mgb-flexi-front-wing-protecters-guards-underwing-liners/ Today after about 17 years I took one off to have a look. The car has been used ...

Re: Oil cooler

Ian, on my last 1275 Midget the oil pressure would drop when the engine was fully hot. Adding an oil cooler cured that. On the MGBs I have had experience of, removing the oil cooler doesn't cause a change in the oil pressure. As I said before when I had the oil cooler thermostat in the hoses, it ver...
