Hi Peter, your first paragraph echoes my thoughts exactly, but I didn't express them as eloquently as you have done!
Karl needs to get this very clear before he spends any more on this I think,

Re: No vin plate no log book just a build and engine number
Just got this from the Heritage Centre website: *You are required to supply your chassis number; we cannot research your car with any other number. *We recommend that you take the chassis number from the vehicle itself, paperwork can be unreliable. Check the number you provide carefully, we cannot b...

Re: No vin plate no log book just a build and engine number
Not sure what to say about this one, and probably not going to be much help to you I'm afraid. The engine number I don't think will be any good at all as these engines will have been swapped around several times on an MG like this. The body number - I'm not sure whether this might help - you will ju...

Re: oil filter seal
Hi Mark, sounds as if you have done more than many of us in the MGCC! As always though, working on a car for the first time always raises some little issues to deal with. MGB Brakes in my experience are very straightforward, and all parts are available (even though some are of dubious quality - try ...

Re: oil filter seal
Like Peter I often didn't change the seal on my earlier vehicles. However, I do now. Should you want to get the seal out the easiest way I found was to use a sharp sturdy needle and skewer the ring from below - you don't need to see it this way, it can be done by touch! Then you can make sure you fi...

Re: oil filter seal
Hi Mark, I suspect the majority of us changing this type of filter have had this experience at one time or another! A common mistake is to not take out the old seal because it is so hard to see and get at. These filters have several applications - hence the different size seals included with the fil...

Re: Anybody using sigle piece rear springs?
It seems to me that if the original lever arm dampers are unable to control parabolic springs, then the springs must be quite different in character to the originals and wouldn't that alter the handling significantly? I think I read sometime ago that parabolic springs were recommended for "comf...

Re: Anybody using sigle piece rear springs?
Hi David, probably not directly answering your query, but I would recommend getting rear springs of "OE" quality rather than some of the cheaper options available. These should have the interleaves between the metal, perform as per the original design, and be more durable. Having said that...

Re: MGB Bedouin
As an addition to Keith's helpful reply above, I can offer the following: # for both my MGB and my Midget I paid for a full copy of the vehicle registration documents from DVLA. # this provides copies of all of the old buff log book owners up to date - it may be possible for Andrew to do the same, a...
