Re: Intermittent power loss 1975 rb roadster
What about your coil, I had similar issues with a Mini many moons ago, turned out to be that.

Re: MGB Tacho (Rev counter)
We have fitted the 123 distributor set to program 2 to Andy's GT and the rev counter works fine.

Re: 1976 MGB GT
A difficult question regarding the value, here is my personal opinion. Rubber bumper GT's are the least desirable MGB's especially in blaze orange/red. If it was converted to chrome and sprayed a nice colour like tartan red it would be worth about 6k. Trouble is the conversion kit is about 1k and th...

Re: Distributors
My friends Engine is a bitzer but I believe that the block and distributor came from a Jubilee so was a 45D 41610. This has been replaced by the 123 set to curve 2 (40897) with positive results. I have it here and have replaced the Lumenition with points and condenser, so he has an emergency spare. ...

Re: Distributors
This is a bit of a minefield. The Haynes manual isn't necessarily correct in my experience. The best source Paul Hunts Bee and Vee (hammer and spanner) site. He has complied data from several reputable sites. www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/curvestext.htm#number I believe, the first 18V engines came in in late...

Re: MG Live
First of all the club should seek legal redress for any monies that its out of pocket from Silverstone. I cant see any reason why the resurfacing couldn't have been done before June unless they want a brand spanking new surface for the GP. Perhaps this is a desperate bid to hold onto the GP and the ...

Re: 2 litre engine and 5 speed mazda gear box
Hi David I've plotted 40897 and 41288 and the curves lie virtually on top of one another and both use a static timing of 10 deg BTDC. I'm not sure which of these I've got in my 71 B, but who cares. The strobe settings are 14 deg BTDC for 40897 and 13 deg for 41288 both at 600 rpm. Its easier to set ...

Re: 2 litre engine and 5 speed mazda gear box
What distributor are you running with David ? I've been doing a bit of a study for a friend whose bought a 123 distributor which has a choice of 16 curves. On the advice of Peter Burgess's book we have set it up with the advance curve of the chrome bumper cars with the 25D4 distributor which uses cu...

Re: 2 litre engine and 5 speed mazda gear box
Just to contradict what I said above, I've just looked at an Autocar test on the MGBGT and 6000 rpm in second only gets you to 50 mph. Perhaps 0-60 wasn't seen as such a benchmark in the sixties. Roughly each gear change will cost you a second. That was a 3 synchro box where 2nd gear ratio was 2.21:...

Re: Wipac headlights
I've run Wipac Quadoptics for many years with no problem like you describe. I did have the reflector corrode on one after a few years. You don't seem to be able to get them these days without the pilot bulb, so I've got one of each now. Later MGTFs seem to suffer from the misting you describe, I don...
