Re: Sparking Plugs. 1970 BGT
I tried Bosch 78R super 4s in one of my MGBs a few years back and found them well suited and I have them fitted to my current 74GT. Maybe I have been suckered by the marketing claims of the copper core and the four separate side electrodes making them more efficient but I must say that my GT is runn...

Re: Headlights
I absolutely concur with Vic but would add the following - 60's/70's wiring harness commonly use bullet type in line connectors which often fail due to corrosion. They can be resurrected by prising them apart, lightly abrading the connecting parts and reassembling and protecting with silicon grease/...

Re: fuel pump.
With the original standard SU pumps readily available, cheap and easy to fit in both CB and RB config, why would you want to do this unless your car is in race setup?

Re: under bonnet insulation drooping
OK, update - used the self adhesive pads from MGOC spares and stuck them on to the cleaned up surfaces. So far so good and after three runs the pads show no sign of coming unstuck. My comments on the MGOC pads are -: the pads are the same bristle based main constituent as others on the market but wi...

Re: under bonnet insulation drooping
Thanks Ian - I am currently removing the residue of adhesive from the metal surface of the bonnet. Even using a mask and a fan running in the workshop this is a half an hour at a go job because of the fumes the solvent gives off! I have considered the Moss bristle pads but frankly have had enough of...

Re: Window winder (or regulator) mechanism
My window winders were getting very stiff (74 GT), in fact lady Wicks could not even move hers. On investigation I found there was considerable lost motion, ie the windows moved sideways before attempting to raise, because the channel/runner felts were compressed/gunged and the passenger side rear c...

under bonnet insulation drooping
I have the standard Moss Europe insulation pads glued to the underside of my bonnet which suffer from sagging. Tried unsuccessfully to re attach with Evostick Contact adhesive. Can anybody recommend a suitable high temperature adhesive or have experience with these Pads, maybe there are better alter...

Re: Underreading Speedometer.
High Vic, I have the same problem in my 74 GT, in fact I was caught doing 36 in 30 Zone and had to go on a Speed Course. The indication in the car was 33! B****r Anyway my solution was to "calibrate" the speedo with my TomTom. I found that at 30mph in 4th on the satnav, on a clear straight...

Re: list to port on a 74 GT
Thanks for that Ian. The old front springs had sagged but no noticeable height mismatch on the car. The rear NS had definitely dropped but I put that down to worn shackle bushes as well as a tired spring. The new front springs showed a very minor free height mismatch on the bench but internet resear...

list to port on a 74 GT
After fitting new springs all round - standard coils and parabolics - I have a small but annoying lean on the car. Measured from wheel arch to wheel centre both drivers side figures (rh) are 1/2 " greater than the Nearside (lh). That doesn't sound much but it is noticeable when you know it's th...
